About FEMTL

Starting in 2020, FEMTL was a safe space for trans women and transfeminine people in Montreal and across the province of Quebec. Starting as an online Discord space in 2020 at the height of the pandemic, we slowly moved into in-person events, with (COVID-conscious) park potlucks at Lafontaine in the summer of 2021 and then held our first FEMTL movie nights, boardgame nights, clothing swaps and peer support group sessions in autumn of 2021 onward at the CCLGBTQ+.

In spring of 2023 we eventually expanded our programs to monthly community dinners at Maison de L’Amitié. We also for the first time expanded our presence to social media after previously growing more organically through word of mouth and org website to maximize community safety.

We had presence at queer marches and networked and collaborated on projects with other queer organizations in the city. We networked extensively with health therapists and practitioners in and outside of Montreal that provide support to trans people. This gave them an extra safety net they could provide to their patients against isolation, which also accelerated our own reach and growth.

With almost 750 local trans women and transfeminine people in our digital space on Discord, FEMTL was also the largest transfeminine-dedicated space not only in Quebec but in all of Canada.

We’re proud of everything that was accomplished in the FEMTL community and wider community coming together and supporting each other during the five years the org was running. Thank you to everyone who made this project a success!
